What is Yaz?
Yaz is the birth control pill. Its active ingredient is the drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. It is taken orally and is mainly given to prevent the undesirable conception. This medicine also helps to regularize the menstrual cycle and treats problems related to menstruation. Yaz birth control works in a way that it prevents the process of release of an egg i.e. ovulation process. It also makes changes in the cervical mucous; this helps to prevent the fertilization by stopping the sperm to meet with the egg or ova. It also makes the uterine lining harder so the fertilized egg cannot implant on it. Yaz is the fourth-generation pill belonging to the birth control pills category. The progesterone in it is the fourth reformulation.

Yaz birth control pill also possesses another beneficial effect for instance it can easily treat moderate acne in girls of age 14 or above or who wish not to conceive. It is also helpful in treating number of other disorder such as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). This syndrome is characterized by many problems such as anxiety, irritability, lack of energy, depression, trouble concentrating, changes in appetite or sleep, pain in joints or muscles, breast tenderness, weight gain and headache. Yaz can put a woman to a large number of infections. The most commonly reported infections because of the use of this medicine are respiratory tract infection and the vaginal infection. The upper respiratory tract infection shows itself through a feeling of difficulty in normal breathing pattern, a sore throat and through a cough. Vaginal yeast infection is characterized by painful urination, vaginal discharge, painful intercourse, burning sensation and itching of the vagina.
It can cause urinary tract infection as well. In case of UTI a person will complaint of fever with rigors and chills along with dysuria, urinary urgency and frequency.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

Like with all other birth control pills, the deep venous thrombosis is also associated with Yaz. In this condition clots are formed in the deep veins of the legs. Women then experience pains, cramps and uncomfortable feelings in their legs. Legs may also swell up. This clot (thrombosis) can also break off and can go to other area such as lungs or brain and can then affect them. In this way, it plays havoc with the body.

Risk of Stroke

Yaz can affect the blood vessels of the body. If it affects the vessels of the brain, it can lead to stroke. It is a condition in which paralysis takes place depending on the area and nature of damage to the brain. This arises as a result of dislodgement of a clot into the blood vessels of the brain. This leads to obstruction and rupturing of the vessels. Stroke manifests itself via headache, numbness and weakness in the limbs, vision problems and also by feeling of transient dizziness.

 

Pulmonary Embolism

Likewise, the clot (a thrombus) when moves to another place, it is then termed as an embolus. In case if it goes to the lungs, then this condition is referred as pulmonary embolism. Yaz birth control pill is also associated with the increase risk of this condition. This manifests itself in the form of dyspnea, chest pain and cough up blood.

Yaz may affect the gall bladder. This is a smaller organ attached to the liver inferiorly. It plays an important role in the digestion and also it concentrates the bile formed by the liver. Yaz birth control pill causes diseases of gallbladder because it boosts levels of cholesterol in bile and reduces movement of gallbladder. This leads to formation of gallstones and the inflammation of the gallbladder. Though, this condition is not fatal but it produces pain and involves a costly surgery.
